Is Your Septic System Showing These Signs? Talk to an Expert — Free.

Most failing drain fields don't need a $40–50K replacement. But not every system qualifies for restoration, either. A free expert call helps you understand what's actually happening — before you commit to anything.

Warning Signs

What a Failing Drain Field Looks Like

If you're noticing any of these on your property, your system is under stress — and there may still be a window to restore it rather than replace it.

💧

Wet patches or soggy ground

Standing water or constantly damp soil over the drain field, even in dry weather.

🚿

Slow drains or gurgling toilets

Sinks, showers, or toilets draining slowly, or making sounds they didn't used to make.

🌿

Extra-green grass over the field

An unnaturally lush strip of grass directly above where your field is buried.

💨

Odour near the back of the yard

Sewage smell outdoors, especially after rain or heavy water use.

These signs don't automatically mean replacement. They mean your system is telling you something. The question is whether restoration is still possible — and that's exactly what the call is for.

How It Works

Why Most Contractors Quote Replacement — And Why That's Not Always Right

Cross-section illustration of a residential septic system: house, tank, distribution box, and drain field laterals underground
A typical residential septic system. The lateral lines on the right are where biomat builds up — and where the $40–50K excavation would happen. Restoration treats the biology without digging.

Your contractor isn't lying to you. He's giving you the only option he knows how to offer.

Most drain field failures are caused by something called biomat — a thick biological layer that builds up in the soil over time, blocking wastewater from draining. Standard contractors dig it out and install a new field. That's the $40–50K quote.

What they may not know: there's an aerobic restoration process that breaks down biomat without excavation. It's been deployed commercially since 2000, in 14 countries. It's not a magic additive — it's an engineered aeration system installed by a certified specialist.

The difference between "this will work for your system" and "this won't" comes down to one thing: an inspection. Not a sales call. A real, on-site diagnosis.

Cost Reality

What You're Actually Looking At

Full Replacement

$40–50K

Excavation of the entire drain field, new lateral installation, and landscaping repair. Several weeks of disruption to your property.

Restoration (if you qualify)

$8–12K

No excavation. One-day installation. Your yard stays intact. System is biologically restored over 30–90 days.

The honest caveat: not every system qualifies. The age of your system, how far the biomat has progressed, and the specific construction of your field all affect whether restoration is viable. That's not something we can tell you on a website — it requires a real conversation and ideally a site visit. The call costs nothing. The inspection is $400. Both happen before we ever quote you anything.

Time Matters

There's a Window — and It's Closing for Some Systems

Biomat doesn't appear overnight. It builds over years. And for a while, the system handles it. Then one day it doesn't — and you're looking at a $45K quote.

Here's what most people don't know: there's a point where the biomat is advanced enough that restoration is no longer viable, and replacement becomes the only real option. Caught earlier, the same system would have been restorable.

We can't tell you where your system is in that window without seeing it. But if you've been ignoring slow drains or a smell in the yard, it's worth a call sooner rather than later.

The call is free. Scott will tell you honestly what he thinks — even if it means telling you restoration isn't right for your situation.

How It Works

Three Steps, Starting With a Conversation

01

Talk to Scott

Free

A 15–20 minute call to understand your system's symptoms, age, and history. Scott will tell you whether it sounds like a restoration candidate, and whether an inspection makes sense.

02

On-Site Inspection

$400

Scott visits your property, assesses the drain field, and gives you a real diagnosis. No upsell, no pressure. You'll know exactly what you're dealing with.

03

Restoration

$8–12K if you qualify

One-day installation of the Pirana aerobic system. Your yard stays intact. The system is restored biologically over the following weeks. Most clients see results within 30–90 days.

Who You're Talking To

A Specialist Who's Been Where You Are

My name is Scott Horan. I started SeptiCure because I went through this on my own property.

A few years ago, I received replacement quotes and didn't love any of them. I started researching alternatives, found Pirana aerobic restoration technology, and had it installed on my own system. Then I became certified to offer it to others.

I run every inspection personally. When you call, you're talking to me — not a call centre. When I show up at your property, it's me, not a subcontractor.

I'll tell you honestly if your system is a candidate. And I'll tell you just as honestly if it isn't.

Common Questions

How do I know if my system qualifies for restoration?

You don't, until we look. The free call helps narrow it down based on your symptoms and system age. The $400 inspection gives us a definitive answer.

Is this the same as Rid-X or other additives I can buy at a hardware store?

No. Rid-X and similar products are biological additives that may help maintain a healthy system — they don't address advanced biomat buildup. The Pirana system is an engineered aeration unit installed by a certified specialist. Different technology, different mechanism, different result.

How long does the installation take?

One day on-site. The system then works biologically over 30–90 days — you'll typically see drainage improvement within weeks.

What if my system doesn't qualify?

We'll tell you that clearly during the inspection. If replacement is genuinely the right call, we won't try to sell you something that won't work. You'll leave the inspection with an honest picture of your options.

What areas do you serve?

Currently serving acreage properties within 150–200 km of Edmonton — Strathcona County, Parkland County, Sturgeon County, Leduc County, Lac Ste. Anne County, and surrounding areas.
